We caught up with Arkady Antsyrev

Arkady AntsyrevSound producer, DJ and electronic artist in the underground scene of St. Petersburg, Russia.

Arkady produces minimalistic House tunes, combining deep-atmospheric soundscapes with uniformed electro beats. His sound is inherent in the allocation of percussion parties and several live instruments. In order to develop a unique sound, Arkady Antsyrew uses modern as well as classical synthesizers, that were popular in the far 80s and 70s (Moog, TR – 909, TR – 808). The combination of new technologies and old-school equipment opens up a new and modern sound that proved to be fresh and relevant to the underground Industry.

In association with US-based record label ‘Little Helpers‘, Arkady has released a 5-track EP named ‘Little Helpers 321’ on April 10. We caught up with the electronic artists for an interview:

Hi there, so what do you do in your everyday life?
A founder of the Black Sea Side music record label, I am mostly busy with music in terms of sound-producing and performing/Djing.

To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?
I have a different sound, but basically I produce minimalistic tones with several techno elements. Based on my classic drum synthesizer, I like creating deep tunes with low bass, profound pads and far down chords.

What are the 5 albums and artists that have influenced you the most?

Laurent Garnier – Wake Up
Laurent Garnier – Flashback
Oscar Mulero – Black Propaganda
Fast Eddie – Most Wanted
I think that’s all of them.

What other artists do you really like at the moment and why?
Currently, I don’t have a favourite artist really, because I do not want to be like others. There are favourite compositions, but I don’t have favourite artists. I listen to everyone and anything and do not want to narrow down to one artist. There is a lot of good music out there.

What are some of the key pieces of gear you use to write your tracks in the studio? Or do you prefer to use software and plugins?
My pets are tk-808 and 909. I am using Synthesizer Moog Sub Fattim, Korg pads and other controllers. For the final touch, I make use of my sequencer where I utilize both of my plugins as well as other components.

Has your arsenal of equipment changed much since you first started?
Definitely, in 2005, I started with FL Studio. The set of my equipment has been increasing within previous years. Right now, I have everything that I need to create new high-quality works. After producing music for several years now, I have been able to create my personal sound that is unique and recognizable.

Let’s give Track no.3 from ‘Little Helpers 321’ a listen on HouseGROUND:

Do you enjoy playing to an audience or working in the studio?
Yes, of course. I spend a lot of time in the studio so it is very nice to get my compositions out there with performances. Composing can be very time-consuming. Performing my work is curing what I am working for.

If we gave you the budget to put a line-up together for a mini-fest, who would you book and where would you play?
I frankly never thought about this, but certainly, I would like to play at a place where the audience will fully support me. For me, this is more important than anything, because only then you are pushed as well as excited to make to most out of the gig.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be?
I can not imagine life without music – probably no one.

Do you have any information regarding upcoming releases, projects, DJ mixes or collaborations in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
Until September, releases are planned in different countries. In the near future, this is Spain, Argentina, Italy and Russia. I will present remixes and original mixes and joint works with other musicians. In the near future, a trip to Norway with new material is planned as well.

Sounds great. Thanks for taking the time with us and good luck and success with your upcoming performances.
