Black Motion has released their remix of Karmacoda’s ‘Time’ on Sola Musa Music this past weekend, and it’s already causing tons of buzz online. Since 2010, the South African group, now made up of Thabo Mabogwane and Kabelo “Problem Child Ten83” Koma, has earned a name for crisp percussion and layered Afro House sounds. Their track record includes releases onDefected Records, several South African Music Awards for Best Duo/Group and Best Dance Album, Gold and Platinum certifications, and a memorable NPR Tiny Desk session. This remix has already been played on RTÉ 2FM’s Alternative with Dan Hegarty and featured in Music In Africa and SIX AM. Karmacoda, the San Francisco duo with over two decades of creative evolution, glide effortlessly across electronica, trip-hop, R&B, ballads, and dream pop, often grounding their music in soulful R&B and jazz lounge elegance. ‘Time’, from their 2022 album Lessons In Time, unites Jessica Ford’s expressive lead vocals, Brett Crockett’s dual role as vocalist and producer, and Eric Matsuno’s textured bass and instrumentation. The original track lingers in the space of regret and introspection, with softly treated vocals floating over gentle piano chords, a steady shaker rhythm, and an unforgettable melodic hook.
The Black Motion remix settles into a hypnotic Afro House groove, propelling the track forward alongside looping arpeggios that thread through intricate percussion and airy textures, allowing the vocals to remain the emotional anchor as the rhythm section drives the energy.
