Hi, how are you?
I’m really well, thank you. Feeling creatively energized and in a good place with where my sound and direction are heading right now.
For those who might be meeting you for the first time, who is DJ Du Jour? How would you describe your style and sound?
DJ Du Jour is about creating moments on the dance floor that feel both uplifting and deeply human. My sound sits between House and Tech House — groove-driven, vocal-led, and emotionally charged — with a strong emphasis on energy, flow, and connection. I love blending soulful elements with punchy, modern rhythms, often using live mashups and three-deck mixing to keep things unpredictable and exciting.
How did your journey into DJing and music production begin? Was there a specific moment or influence that sparked it?
My journey began in Sydney in the mid-2000s, immersed in club culture and the freedom of the dance floor. A pivotal moment was winning the Sydney Mardi Gras DJ Competition in 2010; that really affirmed that this wasn’t just a passion, but something I could pursue seriously. Influences like Fatboy Slim and the energy of early House pioneers showed me how powerful DJing could be as a shared experience, not just a technical skill.
What’s your typical workflow when building a track from scratch?
I usually start with rhythm and groove — getting the drums and bass to feel right is essential. From there, I’ll build around a vocal hook or melodic idea that carries emotion. I like to keep things fluid in the early stages, experimenting and letting the track evolve naturally before tightening the arrangement and refining the energy for the dance floor.
Where do you normally find inspiration for your tracks?
A lot of my inspiration comes from the dance floor itself like moments in clubs where a crowd lifts together, or when a vocal hits just right. Travel, live sets, and even conversations with people after shows all feed into the emotional side of my music. I’m always trying to capture how it feels to be in that shared space.
What DAW do you primarily produce in, and what drew you to it?
I primarily produce in Ableton Live. I’m drawn to its flexibility and the way it encourages experimentation. It mirrors how I DJ — layering, reshaping, and building energy in real time, which makes it feel like a natural extension of my workflow.
How would you describe the vibe of a typical DJ Du Jour set?
High-energy, inclusive, and emotionally charged. My sets are designed to lift people up, create release, and bring a sense of unity on the dance floor. There’s always movement, vocals people can connect to, and moments of surprise that keep the energy flowing from start to finish.
Who were some of your earliest musical influences, and how do they continue to shape your sound today?
Artists like Fatboy Slim, Masters At Work and Shakedown, and the queer club scenes I grew up in, were huge influences. They taught me that music should be joyful, bold, and communal. That ethos still drives everything I do — even as my sound evolves, the focus remains on groove, emotion, and connection.
How do you connect with the crowd during a live set?
I’m always reading the room, watching how people move, react, and respond. Eye contact, body language, and knowing when to push or pull the energy are key. I want the crowd to feel seen and part of the journey, not just listening, but fully involved in the moment.
What can fans expect from you in the near future — new projects, collaborations, or upcoming shows?
There’s new music on the way and some exciting collaborations in development, alongside a strong focus on live shows across Europe and beyond. I’m entering a phase where everything feels more intentional — refining my sound, expanding my reach, and continuing to build meaningful dance floor experiences.
With an international career, a fast-growing global audience, and new music on the horizon, DJ Du Jour continues to shape spaces where sound becomes connection. Every set is a story, every beat an offering, and every crowd a moment of shared togetherness.
